Planned Ports

Sega Mega Drive

Features

  • Overall faster system, which should result in decreased load times
  • 8-player support via two multitaps
  • Sega Mouse support

Possible Issues

  • Requires use of 6-button controller, as it may be too limiting to use the original 3-button controller
  • Mega Drive controllers don't have an equivalent to the "Select" button; would most likely need to cut the "Pause" function and just replace it with the stats screen

Nintendo 3DS

Features

  • Render the game in 3D
  • Widescreen support
  • 8-player support (LAN/WAN) via WiFi
  • Display maps/stats using bottom screen
  • Standard controls, SNES mouse mode using circle pad + buttons, SNES mouse mode using touch screen as trackpad

Possible Issues

  • WAN would most likely require setting up a server for connecting guests to hosts

Nintendo GameCube

Features

  • Widescreen support
  • Use GBA as a controller via link cable
  • Display maps/stats on GBA
  • Rumble support
  • GameCube keyboard support
  • 8-player support (LAN/WAN) via network adapter

Possible Issues

  • WAN would most likely require setting up a server for connecting guests to hosts
  • No multitaps for GameCube means that it can only support 1-4 players max per system via couch co-op

Nintendo GameBoy Advance

Features

  • Widescreen support
  • Rumble support
  • GameCube link cable support
  • Multiplayer support for 1-4 players via link cable

Possible Issues

  • No X/Y buttons. Would need to remap the buttons or emulate the SNES mouse controls
  • GBA link cables only support up to four players max

Nintendo Wii U

Features

  • Widescreen support
  • Rumble support
  • Display maps/stats on Wii U Gamepad
  • Standard controls, SNES mouse mode using analog stick + buttons, SNES mouse mode using touch screen as trackpad
  • 8-player support (LAN/WAN) via WiFi
  • 8-player support via Bluetooth
  • Achievements, maybe using the RetroAchievements API

Possible Issues

  • Are there even eight people who still own a Wii U?

Possible Ports

Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) / Sony PlayStation Vita

Would be fun, but would either bring anything unique to the game?

Sega Mega CD / Sega Saturn

It would be neat to add CD-quality music or FMVs to the Mega Drive port.

Sega Nomad

Would be the Mega Drive port, but portable. Could be fun, but damn, it looks like a clunky system.

Nintendo PlayStation

Would be a neat novelty to bring the game to a prototype console, but might be redundant with the planned MSU-1 support.

Evercade

It would be possible to compile a native Linux binary for the Evercade. Not sold on this one just yet.

Nintendo Switch

The Switch could bring a lot of features and functionalities listed above, but eh...seems like a very obvious (read: dull) system to port it to. Just not very enthusiastic about it.
