Essential Oils Website

This project uses WordPress, Xamp, and Divi to build a mock website for a business that produces Essential Oils.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a popular open-source content management system (CMS) for building and managing websites. Developers can use local development environments like XAMPP to install and run WordPress on their local machines for development and testing.

What is Xampp?

XAMPP is an open-source software package that provides a local web server environment for developing and testing web applications.

The name XAMPP is an acronym that stands for:

  • X (Cross-Platform): It is available for various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • A (Apache): Apache HTTP Server, one of the most widely used web server software.
  • M (MySQL/MariaDB): MySQL and MariaDB are popular relational database management systems.
  • P (PHP): A widely-used open-source scripting language, especially suited for web development.
  • P (Perl): A highly capable, feature-rich programming language with over 30 years of development.

What is Divi?

Divi is a powerful multipurpose WordPress theme built atop the Divi Builder framework, a revolutionary drag-and-drop page builder for WordPress. This theme is available as part of the ElegantThemes.com membership. The membership provides access to important theme updates and tech support, as well as the rest of our awesome WordPress themes and plugins.

How to install Xampp?

Go to the following website to download the Xampp installer: https://www.apachefriends.org/; run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions. Once installed, you can start and stop services using the XAMPP Control Panel, access your web applications through a web browser, and manage your databases using tools like phpMyAdmin, which is included with XAMPP.

How to install WordPress in Xampp Localhost on Windows?

  1. Go to the following website to download the WordPress zip folder: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/download/
  2. Extract the WordPress zip folder on the following path: C:\xampp\htdocs
  3. Open the Xampp Control Panel
  4. Start the “Apache” and “MySQL” modules
  5. Name the database “wordpress” and click on the “Create” button
  6. To configure WordPress, open your browser and go to the following address: http://localhost/wordpress/
  7. When prompted, type wordpress as your Database Name, root as your Username, leave the password empty, and the Database Host and Table Prefix with their default values
  8. Click on the “Run the installation” button.
  9. Input a Site Title, the Username, and Password as root, check the “Confirm use of weak password” box, type an email, check the “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” box, and click on the “Install WordPress” button
  10. Login into the WordPress admin panel with your credentials
