Canonical Url not updating the sitemap

Umbraco version 12.3.3
SEO Toolkit version 3.4.0

When I set my /home page to have the canonical of / this does not update the sitemap.xml file
I was under the impression that anything put into the Canonical URL field this would take priority. At the moment it is only showing the fallback value.

I am fairly certain that the canonical url is only used in the meta fields portion of the library, and has no impact on the sitemap. Each of these components were designed to run somewhat independently, though why I am not entirely sure.
